Homeless Kid 02:58
Some might say my life is on my back I'd rather say my house is on my back My sleeping bag is my sleeping room And my punky dog is my family Welcome to the modern society Some say that's what we call democracy Everyday I see people living their life I'd love to be like them but it feels scary For the moment I can only gently beg them to live mine My sleeping bag is my sleeping room And my punky dog is my family Welcome to the modern society I'm only twenty-four and life has already exhausted me Today i'm so tired that i could sleep the next decade and maybe more Why is my life such a bore ? Won't society give a place where i just could build myself 'Cause now, ain't got no fuckin'place to hide But it feels like this big city's mine...

about

...Version française dispo plus bas...

After 17 years of smashing the drums, scratching the 4 or 6-string guitars, singing and screaming in punk rock and hardcore bands such as Shoogooshoeslide, Evil Worms, Shum-K or Unexpected, Freed Worms, a songwriter, decides in 2008 to record demos of ideas he knows they won’t fit to any of those projects’ heavy and loud sounds. These new songs open up new horizons, as a complex puzzle made of all the musical and cultural influences stored year after year. Trips and humanitarian projects that Freed has been developping in India and Nepal are not strange to these new creations.

From the very beginning the tone is obvious : this solo project will be all about giving a large space to acoustic guitar and vocal melodies, while keeping it simple and efficient. Those few demo songs get an enthusiastic feedback on the internet. Late 2008, after having runned a music project in a Nepalese orphanage, Freed travels in India, Myanmar, Laos, and Japan. This trip will also be a good opportunity to record 15 demo songs. May 2009 : back to France. Two priorities then : 1) Raise funds through concerts, photo exhibitions, and movie projections, in order to develop a new musical project with nepalese teenagers. 2) Finally record “a Place called Home”, take the time to make it good, now that the project is ripe enough and clear.

The album has mainly been composed while making the road. The recording took place in France, Ireland, and Germany from July to October 2009. In three different studios ? No ! As an inheritance from years creating, playing, and recording punk rock music, DIY (Do It Yourself) is the work method the musician likes the most. A laptop, a microphone, and ideas, that’s all the materials that have been needed for the whole recording process. Eight friends have been asked to play their acoustic instruments and to enrich the record with their ideas. Madeleine (cello), la petite Sophie (piano), Mikel (vocals, Unexpected), Sam (vocals, Evil Worms), Simon (vocals, Shoogooshoeslide), and Toon (guitar) came and stay at Freed’s place called home but the recordings were also a great pretext to visit Mooh! (vocals) near Frankfort and Cliodhna (vocals, violin) in Dublin. From October to April 2009, Freed’s back to Nepal to run a new music project with Nepalese teenagers, at Umbrella. This new experience gives him the chance to mix and master “a Place called Home” after work, after dark.

How does the album sound like finally ? What is Freed Worms ? acoustic rock ? maybe... Now in English, now in French, now instrumentals, now raw and minimalist, now playing with more complex vocals-piano-cello-guitars, the 12 pieces that counts finally the album invite us to a musical journey where the energy, the colors, and the atmospheres never stop being renewed and evoluating, and at the end of the road, as the record’s last chord is being scratched, leave us back home, enriched with all those new meetings.

French version...

Comment sonne cet album finalement ?
